Exhibit Fabricator

Location: Boonshoft Museum of Discovery

Work Hours: Non-Exempt Hourly

Reports To: Exhibits Manager


Further the mission of the Museum by assisting in the construction and maintenance of exhibits at Boonshoft Museum of Discovery as well as village reconstruction at SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park. Ensure the quality of the daily operations of our exhibits and reconstructions to enhance the experience of DSNH visitors. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Builds exhibition cabinetry and associated elements
  • Assists in gallery preparation, including painting, adjustments to lighting, and hanging signage
  • Assists in the maintenance of exhibits and activities, including repairs, lighting, regular stocking/refilling, and recovery of areas as needed
  • Assists in the receiving, installation, maintenance, and removal of traveling/rented exhibitions (both to the museum and from/by the museum)
  • Opens and closes Boonshoft Museum of Discovery
  • Helps with reconstructions at SunWatch Indian Village
  • Completely daily floor recovery and basic cleaning as needed
  • Follows policies for safety in the usage and storage of shop machines, tools, and equipment


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The ideal candidate must have a knowledge of woodworking, metalworking, electrical work, and audio/visual equipment.  They should be able to work independently and adhere to reasonable deadlines as needed to complete projects.  Applicant must be a self-starter who can identify problems and solve them without constant supervision.

Education and/or Experience: Ideal individual has a strong background in cabinetry; 3 to 5 years of woodworking experience; Associate Degree and/or Technical Training is preferred but not required
